Support Group for Young Women

4/2/2013

Following a successful workshop titled “How to Manage Flashbacks and Nightmares” with young women held in November 2012, Zig Zag is now facilitating an 8-week Support Group for young women aged 12-25 years with a specific focus on managing the effects of trauma following sexual assault.

This support group aims to explore how to manage unwanted memories, flashbacks and live more in the present moment. The group will also examine topics such as why sexual violence happens, misconceptions around sexual assault and women’s experiences, and how we can all contribute to ending sexual violence in our communities. The group will provide a safe space where young women can connect with one another and share strategies and skills for dealing with the effects of trauma. Please note: we will not focus an any individual’s specific trauma content of flashbacks or memories. Instead, we will share different ways to manage these experiences and feel safer and stronger. Individual counselling/support will be available to young women who are participating in the support group.

This support group will be held at Zig Zag from 20 March 2013 – 8 May 2013.

For more information see attached flyer and contact Adela at Zig Zag on telephone: 3843 1823 or sateam2@zigzag.org.au
