Pitch to the Future

Calling all creative young innovators! Do you have an idea that could change our future?

Vibewire are putting the call out to changemakers (30 and under), who are working on or looking to launch creative projects with social impact, to apply to compete for $2, 000, an Innovation Lab Scholarship and other prizes at the Pitch the Future Event at the Vivid Festival of Ideas. See full list of prizes below.

We are accepting applications til 5pm May 15.

If your application is selected you along with 5 other young changemakers will have the opportunity to pitch your idea to Sydney’s creative and changemaker communities on May 30 at Vivid Ideas.  

The winning projects will receive:
  • $2000 seed funding (audience choice only).
  • 24/7 workspace at the Vibewire Innovation Lab (6 months for the winner and 3 months for the runner-up). The Lab is Sydney’s original co-working space for social innovators and is located on Harris St in Ultimo.
  • Be matched with a mentor who will meet with you regularly over the next 6 months while you develop your project;
  • Be profiled on Vibewire.org.
  • Receive free access to all workshops and events taking place at the Innovation Lab.
  • Receive a pass to Unleashed at the Opera House in November run by the Foundation for Young Australians.

This event is being jointly produced by a collection of Australia’s leading organisations for social and creative entrepreneurs – Vivid Ideas Festival, Vibewire, the Foundation for Young Australians, the Awesome Foundation Sydney and StartSomeGood.com. The winner will be chosen by audience selection and the runner-up will be selected by judging panel.

TAAS will not be funded by the Qld Govt

TAAS services will not be funded by the Queensland Government when the Federal Government’s emergency funding ends on 30th June 2013.

Multicultural Youth Sports Partnership Program

The third round for the Multicultural Youth Sports Partnership Program is now open.

The program provides grants to organisations of between $5,000 and $50,000 to help youth from new and emerging communities and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to participate in sport within their local communities.

The announcement from Minister for Sport and Multicultural Affairs Kate Lundy can be viewed here. Applications for the grant close on 2 May 2013 and successful applicants will be announced in July 2013. Click here to apply.

Y Bloom Young Women Mentors Wanted

YWCA QLD is currently looking for talented young business women to be mentors in the Term 3 and Term 4 2013 programs.

Y Bloom is a 10 week program which is designed to build confidence, self-awareness, interpersonal skills, team work skills and personal direction.

Developed specifically for Year 9 girls, Y Bloom has been created to meet the need for more development opportunities in the adolescent years which provide students with real life experiences. The program has been designed to challenge all abilities and requires only a willingness to participate and learn.

Y Bloom takes a step further than traditional leadership development by drawing the link through educational activities between self, community, current schooling and future education, employment and life choices.

NAB: Schools First Awards Program

NAB Schools First is an awards program open to all Australian schools.

NAB Schools First rewards outstanding examples of school-community partnerships that deliver improved educational outcomes for students.

Applications to the 2013 NAB Schools First program are now open.

Schools either in partnership with their community or with a great partnership idea are encouraged to apply and be in the running to win up to $200,000!

New ARACY Report Card

The Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth report card, released this month, examined the concerns of 3700 young people and families young people, comparing how Australia ranks against other developed countries in terms of youth wellbeing.  Australian young people rank in the top third of OECD countries in tertiary qualifications, low smoking rates and community participation. But they are only in the middle band when it comes to teen pregnancy, dental decay, overweight and obesity, youth suicide and cannabis use. Australia is in the bottom third of countries for child abuse deaths, infant mortality, preschool participation and income equality.

New National Youth Awards announced

On 5 April 2013 Minister for Youth Peter Garrett announced a new Australian Government initiative, the ‘National Youth Awards’. The Awards will be held annually in National Youth Week to celebrate, acknowledge and recognise Australia’s youth. The National Youth Awards will celebrate young people and promote the important contribution they make to the nation and will be ‘for young people by young people’. If you are aged 12-25 and would like to have your say on the details of the Awards, please complete the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NYA.
