YANQ is Queensland's only youth peak. We need you to support our work!
Q. Why donate to YANQ?
A. We are Queensland's only organisation that specifically advocates for youth workers and others who work with young people. We are 100% community funded (we receive NO government funding), so rely completely on the support of people like yourself. We require around $100,000 each year to maintain our work. Q. Where will my money go? A. The vast majority of your donation will go to front-line advocacy work, research and promotion of best practice frameworks for youth workers, and campaigns that support the rights of marginalised young people. YANQ does not have a dedicated admin role, and we share our office to reduce overheads, so you can be assured that your money will be going to create a better sector and world for young people. Read more about what we do. Q. Are donations tax deductible? A. As with the vast majority of organisations who engage with legislation and policy work and advocate for change, YANQ is not eligible for gift recipient status. That is precisely why we rely on your donations - we do not attract the traditional large scale philanthropic support of organisations which have this status. Q. Do you take bequests? A. Yes. You've heard it many times before, but it's true, young people are our future. Creating structural change will enable young people to have the best start in life, and reduce their crisis needs later in life. Why not leave a bequest and tackle the cause of youth marginalisation? YANQ member Alvin Hava's appeal for assistance
Hello YANQ supporters,
I am writing to you all today because I feel it's time we as members of YANQ stand up and be counted.
YANQ has been around since the late 80s, and over the last 20 years has been a key support mechanism for youth workers and young people in Queensland. It is our peak representative body, and does great work with and for the sector and speaking up for youth workers throughout the state.
In the last year, we've seen our peak come under repeated attack and in December 2012, be entirely de-funded by Government. Since then, there have been moves to cut YANQ out completely from policy and recommissioning processes, reducing our sector's ability to define its own future.
I have spoken to the YANQ staff regularly, and despite the cuts, restructuring, position losses and reductions, they are all passionately working to maintain the organisation's research and advocacy work, and keep information channels open for the sector. I'm pretty inspired by what they're doing with their limited funds.
YANQ is our peak body. If we want to see it keep doing good work in our names, then we have to act. To kick things off, I will be personally contributing $500 to support YANQ and asking my service provider to match this dollar amount. I would encourage all individuals that are in the position to contribute financially also, or team up as group and set a target to help out, then ask you company or organisation to do the same and keep YANQ going.
I am positive that out of this present environment our peak body will continue to function, but it all starts with us and as a collective we can then motivate others to do the same. WE CAN DO IT!!
