Income management is a budgeting tool to help people to meet ongoing needs for themselves and their family. Income management works by directing a proportion of certain income support and family assistance payments to ensure that they are spent on priority items such as food, housing, clothing and utilities.
Changes from 1 July 2013
From 1 July 2013, the vulnerable measure will also apply to young people who are:
- granted the Unreasonable To Live At Home (UTLAH) rate of payment by a Centrelink social worker, or
- under the age of 16 and are granted a Special Benefit payment by a Centrelink social worker, or
- under the age of 25 and receive a crisis payment due to prison release
