OTHER NEWS: FEDERAL BUDGET

Massive implication for young people and youth sector in last nights federal budget:

All commentators have agreed that young people were the hardest hit by the federal budget released last night. Cuts to Income support for unemployed young people, changes to eligibility for Newstart and Disability Support Pension as well as changes to Medicare, education funding and student loan repayments will all have negative impacts on lives of young people.

Amongst other things the federal budget papers revealed that there will be a $3.5 million reduction in the Federal Youth Engagement budget and $13.2 million reduction in Department of Education Grant Programmes. This means the loss of the national youth peak body Australian Youth Affairs Coalition (AYAC). Its also has been confirmed that Youth Connections program and  School Business Community Partnership Brokers program have both been defunded.

YANQ will release further analysis on the federal budget in the coming days.
