On July 14, 2010, YANQ launched the report called "Re-engaging Students in Education: Success Factors in Alternative Schools". This report is the result of research that aimed to answer the question "how do 'alternative' schools attempt to meet the needs of young people disengaged from the mainstream schooling sector?" The report outlines the research that was undertaken, provides findings, and offers recommendations on a number of points.

During 2006, the Youth Affairs Network of Queensland noticed an increase in the number of organisations and youth workers contacting it to raise concerns about the level of support available for young people who were not involved in education or work.
