This article in a recent edition of the Source: Druginfo Clearinghouse's newsletter provides links to a number of studies and reports on the impact of parental drug use on children.
Loxley et al.
found that there are a number of reports and studies that have
investigated the impact of parental drug use on children.
"Young people are at increased risk where there is
parent–adolescent conflict, favourable parental attitudes to drug use,
parental alcohol and drug problems, and parental approval of drug (e.g.
alcohol) use in childhood or early adolescence." (Loxley W, Toumbourou JW & Stockwell T, 2004, p. 17)
The July 2007 issue of Of Substance
also carries an article on the issue and the House of Representatives
Standing Committee on Family and Human Services are conducting an inquiry into the impact of illicit drug use on families.
