Snapshot 2011: Children and Young People in Queensland is the ninth annual Snapshot report published by the Commission. It identifies key trends and current issues that affect the health, safety and wellbeing of Queensland's children and young people.
The key findings of the report include:
- the numbers of children coming to the attention of Child Safety Services have grown
- there has been a growth in the number of children and young people in out of home care, with a significant increase in young people living in residential care
- the majority of students in Years 3,5,7 and 9 continue to meet the minumum standards of reading and numeracy
- the rates of sexual offences against young people are the lowest in eight years
- indigenous children and young people continue to fare poorly compared to Queensland averages.
