"Lighting the path - reflections on counselling, young women and sexual assault" explores feminist counselling practice with young women who have experienced sexual violence. It is written by 22 grassroots sexual assault counsellors from across Australia.
The book has recently been launched by Zig Zag Young Women's Resource Centre.
The 15 chapters explore a range of topics, including:
- The current context of feminist counselling practice
- Engaging young women, working with interpreters and creating a safe environment in trauma counselling
- A range of interventions such as individual, group work, adventure based approaches and art therapy
- Working with young women in specific settings such as Aboriginal communities, prisons, drop-in centres and counselling in the car, and
- Specific issues for young women survivors such as self-harm, self-blame and sexuality.
