This
brief information paper provides a summary of the 2006 Counting the
Homeless Census undertaken by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.The 2006 Counting the Homeless Census recorded 122,172 people, including marginal residents in caravan parks.
This is almost exactly the same as the figure of 122,768 recorded in 2001. If
marginal residents in caravan parks are excluded, the recorded homeless
population has increased by 4.78 percent from 99,900 in 2001 to 104,676
in 2006.
On the night of the Census, 17,891 young people (12-18yo) were counted as homeless.
