One World Many Faces - Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival 2009 - Queens Park, 10am-4pm, Sunday 9th August
Behold
the colours, taste the flavours and listen to the voices of our
community. Come and celebrate all the different cultures &
languages that exist within our region! Diversity is one of the great
strengths of our community culturally, socially and economically.
The
Festival committee is proud to announce that all foodies can be catered
for with over twenty food stalls including Vegetarian, Halal, Vegan
and Gluten free food will be available as well as chilli chocolate and
lots of tastes from our local communities.
The community
performance stage is jam packed with entertainment and includes the
Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal dance troupe on the main stage at around 11
am. They are an Internationally acclaimed traditional/contemporary
Australian Aboriginal Performance, having toured Europe, Asia, Saudi
Arabia, and New Zealand to name a few. Also Dancing Hands (Auslan) mime
performers will be performing at 1pm and holding 3 mini workshops
throughout the day. There will also be an Art workshop with Raymond
Walters Japanagka from Thorny Arts, thornyarts.com
Roving entertainment by DrumDance members who have entertained
audiences since 1993 at numerous private and public events throughout
Queensland & Northern New South Wales. The troupe is the main act
at a quarterly Middle Eastern Dance Hafla in Toowoomba.
The Unohana Kite Competition is part of the Toowoomba
Languages and Cultures Festival and offers fun and creativity for all
members of the community. The Kite Competition reflects the Festival’s
theme for 2009 of ‘One World, Many Faces’. The Competition is on from
11.30 am until 1 pm and is judged by a panel of community members and
Festival sponsors. The winners will be announced at the prize giving at
1 pm on the Festival main stage. The Unohana Kite Competition brings
together the kite flying and decorating skills of people of all ages
from the many language groups in the Toowoomba region.
