Log of Claims (Draft) and Costing Calculator
Wednesday, 19 March 2008

A draft copy of the Log of Claims for the Youth Services Multi-Employer Agreement has now been released by the Australian Services Union.  The Log of Claims are the improvements to current pay and working conditions that employees of youth services are seeking.

To help services work out the cost-implications, YANQ has developed a costing tool, which you can also download below.

The Log of Claims

The Log of Claims comes in two parts.  The main clauses, and an attachment dealing with study leave.

Please note that the clauses contained in the Log of Claims are a draft and the final Log of Claims will be negotiated with services.  Also note that the Union is working on developing a more detailed clause to account for the Percentage-based wage increase.  In the costing calculator below a figure of 3.5% has been used as a guide.

Costing Calculator

The costing calculator (see download links below) is a spreadsheet that allows you to enter the details of each employee and determine the cost implications of providing the improved pay and conditions under the Youth Services MEA.

As you will see in the tool, the calculations for the additional leave categories are all based on the following assumptions:

  • That every employee will make use of each additional leave category;
  • That your organisation will back-fill the employee  for each leave category; and
  • For study leave - that the organisation will be responsible for paying the fees, in addition to providing leave (details are in the spreadsheet).

These assumptions result in some very high costs.  It is reasonable to presume though that not every employee will use every bit of leave and that your service may not want or need to backfill every time a staff member takes leave.

You can download the Costing Calculator below.
