In 2007 the Queensland Industrial Relations
Commission Pay Equity Inquiry found a glaring disparity between the rates
paid in the public sector to those paid in the community sector for the same
level of work. The table below clearly shows this
inequity.

Note: The classification levels are an indicator of the level of skill required and the amount of supervision (if any) or autonomy that would be appropriate for an employee. The classification levels between the public and community sector workers are comparable (i.e. an employee classified at level 4 working for a government department should have similar levels of responsibility and skills to an employee of a non-government youth service classified at level 4).
