Youth Workers!

STOP!

For just five minutes and relax...

Here at YANQ, we are hearing a lot of people telling us how busy and stressed they are feeling. It seems we all have a lot (maybe too much) on our plates.

We need to start looking after ourselves and each other.  To help with this YANQ wants to hear how you look after yourself and your colleagues and we'll share all the ideas we get.

Some of us are missing deadlines (you might have noticed this from YANQ too). And some of us are feeling terribly guilty about the work we just don't have time to get to.

We all have a responsibility to look after ourselves.  When we do this, we can better help young people to achieve their social, economic and cultural rights.

A lot of people recognise this and are working on decreasing the demand and increasing the resources and support to workers in the human services - not just YANQ, but many organisations and peak bodies across the country. But this work will take a while.

In the meantime it's important that we all look after ourselves - for our own benefit but also for the young people and the communities we are working with.

We also know however that some of you are very good at managing your time and looking after yourselves.

At YANQ, we'd like to hear your ideas about how you manage your time and maintain your energy and enthusiasm despite the fact that there is too much work and not enough time. We will then share your tips with the rest of the sector so that hopefully we can all find a useful idea or two that helps us deal with our large workloads and lack of resources.
